INVENTION Orange juice machine YOU TUBE VIDEO click here A couple of blocks away is a bigger enterprise that uses a new invention to press small oranges.

Fresh juice squeezed while you wait

On the corner of a small lane and a busy street is this juice bar.  The oranges might have come from South Africa or California. The Taiwan oranges were even better.  Other juices available are grapefruit, lemon and kumquat.

( 20 April 2012 – video showing small local oranges being squeezed by a new juice machine two blocks away).

I’d visit the juice man most days in 2009.  He started work at 10AM and remained open for about 12 hours.  Nearby is a busy street night market near the old ‘Food Circle’.

After a couple of weeks we would speak to each other in our own languages which neither of us understood.    It was quite funny but also a genuine attempt at being friendly.

The prices fo his fresh squeezed juice are not cheap but are reasonable by Australian standards.   A 6oz cup for NT$40   Elsewhere in Taiwan it might be  less.   Taiwan is not cheap but the standards are higher.

Australia would have too many rules to prevent a street shop like this existing.

I’ll later show various other small businesses that exist in Taipei.  It’s a good story.

The shoemaker, the man who fixes anything electrical, the key cutters etc.

All tiny ‘shops’ located on the footpath. Some are packed up and taken home others are mere boxes locked up at night.

Quite interesting and popular alternatives to higher prices elsewhere.  In Taiwan there are so many choices for the same goods.

A positive example that comes with high population density living.

A 2-person juice bar at a night market.  Very large local watermelons make  juice that is first blended then strained.
